About us

Opposite is a wee history of how the Association came into being.

From Small Beginnings...

...in 1993, when 23 artists realised the need for a representative group, and after several attempts finally joined forces in an arts and crafts promotional leaflet to assist the visitor, the Skye and Lochalsh Arts and Crats Association has grown year by year numerically and in ambition. Currently numbering 78 members, the Association now has sub-committees to deal with funding, run group exhibitions, and most importantly produce its flagship booklet. Now in its fith year, 'Elements of Excellence' is very highly regarded among the arts communities of Scotland, and has become the benchmark for like-minded groups. Great emphasis is placed on establishing Skye the island as one of Scotland's top arts and crafts visitor venues, and alongside vision and drive, SLACA is reliant on professional experience within the group, and two founder members, and previous chairs, Cathy Myhill and Stuart Whately, still serve on the current committee.
